Another scanner installed at Torkham.

KHYBER -- The National Logistics Cell has installed another electronic scanner near the Torkham border for scanning of the vehicles carrying export goods to Afghanistan.

Sources at the border said the new machine was installed near Shaheed Mor, a checkpost jointly manned by the local police and the Frontier Corps, about one kilometre ahead of the main border crossing.

They said that the vehicles taking export goods would be scanned with the help of the new machine, which had been longstanding demand of the local transporters, exporters and customs clearing agents.

Welcoming installation of the additional scanning machine, local transporters and customs clearing agents hoped that it would greatly help in expediting the process of goods clearance which had been a constant source of trouble and prolonged delay in the presence of a mobile scanner operating near the border crossing.

The transporters, however, alleged that the NLC staff posted at the mobile scanner had been unlawfully charging...
