Action sought against illegal tree felling.

KARAK -- Timber mafia has turned Sheen Ghar, Monaka Banda, Matoor, Channikhel and Karat hilly ranges here into a barren land, prompting local elders to demand action for stopping illegal chopping of trees.

The demand was made by Haji Wazir, Malal Khan and others while talking to mediapersons here on Friday.

They said that timber mafia was active in the district and busy in ruthless cutting of trees in the hilly ranges and selling the same in different markets.

The elders claimed that they had brought the issue into notice of the forest department, but no action was taken so far. They demanded of the quarters concerned to arrest all those involved in illegal cutting of trees.

They suggested building small dams and encouraging local communities for growing more trees in the hilly ranges.
