'Absence of public transport leading to teenage bikers deaths'.

FAISALABAD: Absence of the public transport is leading to deaths and injuries for the teenage motorcyclists in the road accidents as they are fond of rash riding and bringing motorcycles on the roads without driving licence and training.

The number of deaths and injuries can be minimised manifold by providing the public transport on busy routes and ensuring smooth riding by the youngsters.

These views were expressed in an interactive session between the traffic wardens and the students of a private school on the Tariq Road on Thursday. The education unit of the City Traffic Police had organised the session.

Faisalabad lacks public transport facility and the routes that do have buses and vans are not enough to cater to the need of public.

Traffic Warden Muhammad Altaf said the practice of underage driving was going unabated which should be a matter of concern for the parents too who had been allowing their children to ride motorcycles even on the roads having heavy traffic. He said the parents could save their children from accidents with little precautions.

Currently, Mr Altaf added, the parents were giving motorcycles to their teenage children to show off their status in the middle and lower middle classes; however, by doing so they invited mishaps for their children.

The youth could play an effective role to minimise the trend of traffic accidents by driving safe and focusing the traffics rules, another warden added.
