7,000 AIOU students without tutors in Lahore region.

LAHORE -- The Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU), Lahore region, has failed to appoint tutors for more than 7,000 students of autumn 2019 semester of different disciplines from matriculation to masters.

The autumn 2019 started in July and 28,099 students got admission to different discipline from matriculation to masters. The regional campus of the AIOU accepts candidates for matriculation, inter, graduation and 31 disciplines of masters.

According to data available with Dawn, 20,924 students were allocated 1,224 tutors but the remaining 7,175 candidates have been waiting for allocation of tutors for the last six months whereas the semester is about to end in January 2020.

The students have started approaching the regional office for tutors so that they could get help from them to complete the assignments.

A number of students said that they have approached the regional office time and again for appointment of teachers and every time the administration put them off that soon they would get tutor. 'We have received books and schedule for assignments but how can we complete our assignment because no tutorial meeting has been held,' a student said.

Tutor is the backbone of the distance learning system.

'We've already missed our tutorial meetings and it is affecting their studies,' she said.
