223 teachers released on bail.

ISLAMABAD -- A local court on Friday granted bail to 223 volunteer teachers of Basic Education Community Schools Programme (BECS) who were arrested from Jinnah Avenue for holding a sit-in.

Civil judge-cum-judicial magistrate granted post-arrest bail to each teachers against Rs2,000 each bail bond.

When judge accepted the bail petition, the lawyers requested him to release the teachers without any bail bonds keeping in view their financial constraints as they were even unable to pay lawyers fee.

The judge, however, asked them to submit bail bonds of nominal Rs2,000 each.

The capital police arrested the teachers in an operation early on Thursday morning.
