19 PhDs among degree recipients at UET convocation.

LAHORE -- The 25th convocation of the University of Engineering and Technology (UET) was held here on Friday.

As many as 2,263 degrees 19 PhDs, 564 MPhil/MS degrees and 1,680 undergraduate degrees were awarded. Seventy-one gold medals were also awarded among students.

Governor Chaudhry Sarwar said the students are the future of our nation.

'The economy is related to engineering sector. Acquisition of development goals from engineering can be made possible,' he said, adding that the government had a vision that every child of this nation should get education. He advised the students to work hard so that they could participate in the economic transition of Pakistan.

'Pakistan is facing many challenges which can be resolved through collective wisdom and long-term decisions with the assistance of latest skills and comprehensive strategies,' he said. He admired the role of the UET in developing Pakistan by producing professionals.

UET Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Fazal Ahmad Khalid said: 'Universities play vital role to build a nation on a scientific basis with the help of result-oriented research and other ways of learning.'

He highlighted the output of the university in capacity building, new pedagogical techniques, laboratory and research centres, upgradation of courses, construction, expansion and memoranda of understanding with academic and industrial institutions at national and international level.

GCU: A seminar was held at the Government College University (GCU) on Friday in connection with the 22nd death anniversary of Nobel Laureate Prof Dr Abdus Salam.
