14-member inter-provincial bank robbers gang busted.

LAHORE -- Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Lahore Additional IG Ghulam Mahmood Dogar has said that the CIA Lahore police have busted a 14-member inter-provincial banks robbers gang, involved especially in bank dacoities in Karachi.

Addressing a press conference at the CCPO headquarters here on Saturday, he said that In-Charge CIA Police Model Town Syed Hussain Haider, in supervision of SSP Organised Crimes CIA Lahore Shoaib Khurram Janbaz, busted the notorious Pathan gang. Ring leader Laiq Hussain was most wanted to the Karachi police for bank robberies.

He said that other gang members including Zahid Khan, Haji Farid Khan, Khalid Khan, Sadiq Ali, Kamran Haidri, Kamran alias Kammi had been planning bank robberies in Lahore, with the connivance of their Lahore-based facilitators -- Waqar Ahmad, Shoaib, Kamran alias Fauji, Muhammad Usman, Sunni Hakim, Muhammad Shakil and Muhammad Iqbal -- during the Eid holidays.

The CCPO said that accused Zahid Khan, Sadiq Ali and Kamran Haidri had been given the task of carrying out recce [reconnaissance] of various banks in Lahore as well as National Saving Centres. They carried out recce of seven bank branches in Lahore during the last four months.

Ghulam Mahmood Dogar said the gang mostly committed robberies at such banks in Karachi which had lockers. They would broke into the lockers by cutting the locks with the help of gas cylinders and loot jewellery, cash and valuables during holidays. Later they would flee to the tribal areas, he added.
