Women Promotion in Iran.

According to the recent statistical census (2016) the total population of the country is over 79 million, of which 39 million (49.3 percent) are female. Numerous advances in the situation of women in the Islamic Republic of Iran in areas of political, cultural, social and economic rights, particularly in the fields of education, science, health and political participation, demonstrates political belief in the necessity of women's inclusion any process of policymaking for development.

  1. Women's Role in Political Participation and Decision-Making:

    Women have always played a constructive and significant role in socio-political life of modern history of Iran. For example, Iranian women actively participated in the Islamic revolution. In the Islamic republic of Iran women serve the right to vote and the right to be elected as a politician or law-maker; Since the Islamic Republic of Iran recognizes and supports political participation and presence of women in political and decision making positions.

    The right to participate in policy making decision making and educational and scientific management have been stipulated in Iran's 20-year outlook and the charter on women's rights and responsibilities adopted in 2004. Currently three members of the cabinet namely, vice president for women and family affairs, vice president for legal affairs and Special Assistant to the President for Citizenship rights are women. In addition some women have been appointed as a minister, ambassadors, judges, solicitor general's, deputies of heads of judicial complexes, governorgenerals, mayors, advisors to ministers, directors, deputies of ministers and chairpersons of government institutions.

    Furthermore, the number of women in the country's Parliament and City/Village Councils indicates a progressing trend. The share of women in parliament seats has risen 450% from the first to the ninth term. The number of women candidates for the latest parliamentary elections has increased 3 times compared to the previous parliament and has reached the number of 1234. In addition, the number of female MPs has increased in the recent elections by 2 times. The youngest female parliamentarian is 30 years old.

    According to the issued policies by the government of I.R. of Iran, 30 percent of the managerial positions should be allocated to women until the end of implementation of the 6 th National Development Plan.
