Who Will Run to Become Mongolia's Fifth President?

The Mongolian People's Party (MPP) and Democratic Party (DP) carried out candidate selection for their presidential nominees on Wednesday.The eighth MPP Conference was held on Wednesday for party members to vote for their presidential candidate, with 259 of the conference's 310 members participating in the vote.

By conducting a survey on preferences for presidential candidates, the Board of Directors of the MPP selected Speaker of Parliament M.Enkhbold, Vice Speaker of Parliament Ts.

Nyamdorj, Deputy Prime Minister U.Khurelsukh, Minister of Defense B.

Bat-Erdene, and Member of Parliament U.Enkhtuvshin for the party's nomination.

Bat-Erdene, and U.Enkhtuvshin withdrew their nominations before a final vote was taken.

The conference's delegates narrowed the selection down to Speaker M.Enkhbold and Vice Speaker Ts.

Nyamdorj, and 85.7 percent of the delegates voted for M.Enkhbold to represent the MPP in the upcoming presidential election.

M.Enkhbold was born in 1964, in Ulaanbaatar, and graduated from the School of Economics at National University of Mongolia in 1987, where his father was a professor.

Following graduation, he began working for the Service Office of the Executive Authority under the People's Deputies Assembly of Ulaanbaatar, and was transferred to the Ministry of Public Service to work as a specialist in 1989.He served as Deputy Mayor of Chingeltei District from 1992 to 1996, was Mayor of Ulaanbaatar from 1999 to 2005, and was Prime Minister from 2006 to 2007. Since 2005, he has served as a Member of Parliament representing Bayangol District and Tuv Province, and he was elected Speaker of Parliament last year. He is also the President of the Federation of Mongolian Horse Racing Sports and Trainers.
