Webinar to Celebrate World Press Freedom Day Journalism without Fear and Favor.

Institute of Peace and Diplomatic Studies in collaboration with The Diplomatic Insight, Global News Pakistan and International Forum for Pakistani Columnist and Anchors, organized a webinar to celebrate World Press Freedom Day.

A discussion was held on the topic "Journalism without fear and favor". Webinar had four key speakers including keynote Senator Faisal Javed Khan, Chairman, Senate Standing Committee on Information and Broadcasting, Dr. Sadia Kamal, Vice President of National Press Club, Mr.Iqbal Khattak, Country Representative Reporting without Borders, and Khalid Jamil, Journalist at Info Change News and Features Network.

Ms. Farhat Asif, Founder President, Institute of Peace and Diplomatic Studies Ms. Farhat welcomed all the participants on behalf of peace and diplomatic studies for being a part of the webinar to celebrate the "World Press Freedom Day". Farhat Asif shared brief introduction to International World Press Day and highlighted its importance. Farhat Asif added that the day is a reminder to everyone including the government to respect the commitment to press freedom, ethics, and values.

Dr. Sadia Kamal first clarified the meaning of free press. She said that it means to do reporting in a free and fair manner. She shared that the responsibility of journalism also includes providing awareness to people, and citizens regarding religious, social, and economic aspects. She shed light on Pakistani journalism specifically and stated that the journalism in Pakistan is not free.

Recalling journalism from the past and recalled writers such as Faiz Ahmed Faiz and stated that these writers were examples of true journalism. Media today is not as free as it should be. Media is politically influenced; it has cultural biases and media channels cannot exercise their full rights. She further talked about the hierarchy in the system. Journalism is influenced by employers and to protect their business and credentials media personals have to compromise in their duties.

Khalid Jamil started his talk with the point that Pakistan's journalism lacks professionalism. He said that this includes Pakistan in the list of the countries that are dangerous for journalists. He said that Pakistan also comes in the top 15 list...
