Vendors protest seizure of merchandise.

KASUR -- Scores of fruit and vegetable vendors held a sit-in before the office of the Chunian Tehsil Administration on Tuesday that impounded their pushcarts along with fruit and vegetables.

The pandemic-stricken vendors said the administration had been holding their carts for the last three days, making them unable to start their business and feed their families.

Tehsil Administrator Adnan Badar said the administration was only taking action against the encroachers of public places. He said that the administration had been giving them warnings for the last six months but their refusal to leave the places forced the TMA to take action as the vendors flouted the orders of the administration.

The number of pushcarts in the tehsil increased after the lockdown due to coronavirus as many shopkeepers with scant resources were out of business. Moreover, the pushcart vendors were also free from Saturday and Sunday lockdown enforcement.

According to senior citizen Rehmat Ali, the communication gap between leaderless vendors and the administration was creating unrest among the cart pushers.
