'Urdu translation of Tunio's Sindhi stories bridges gap between two languages'.

LARKANA -- Speakers at the launch of Urdu translation of Roshan Ali Tunio's short stories said the translation was a journey of love and it bridged gap between the two languages introducing richness of Sindhi literature to Urdu-speaking readers.

They were sharing their views at the ceremony organised by Sachal Adabi Markaz here late on Saturday night for the launch of posthumously published Darwaza Khol containing 15 stories translated into Urdu from noted writer Tunio's short stories.

Ahmed Sultan Khoso, prominent writer and additional commissioner of Larkana who presided over the ceremony, said that Tunio occupied a high place among Sindhi story writers. His stories were of international standard given their diction, treatment of the subject, language and plot, he said.

He said that Channa who had translated the stories into Urdu deserved high appreciation for his work. He had succeeded in bringing the true flavour and message of the original stories into his Urdu translation, he said.

Prof Mukhtiar Samo, writer and founder of Knowledge Centre, said that Tunio was bestowed with an immeasurable quality of writing fiction. He crafted stories around some of the tragic incidents which had taken place in rural areas, he said.

Besides being a creative writer, he was a landlord and an officer in revenue which afforded him a vintage position to observe the occurrences up close and wrote true stories with artistic and literary touch, he said.

He said that Tunio depicted highhandedness and selfish behavior of many rich and influential people and helplessness of downtrodden and other subtleties of life. His diction was interesting and language rich representing the place in which the stories developed, he said, showering praise on Channa for making a true translation of Sindhi stories into Urdu.

Prominent writer and researcher Dr Bashir Ahmed Shaad said the stories were full of bitterness and realities of life in rustic environment. The villages of Sindh besides being epitome of beauty were plagued by many problems as well and these stories fully represented them, he...
