Upcoming UET Syndicate meet opposed sans teachers' representatives.

LAHORE -- The University of Engineering and Technology (UET) administration has called a meeting of its Syndicate on May 30 without teachers' representatives.

Under the University Act, the Syndicate consists of 17 members out of whom seven should be faculty members, including one each professor, associate professor, assistant professor, lecturer, two faculty members of the Senate, and one dean.

Earlier, the Syndicate meeting was scheduled for May 16 but was cancelled due to incomplete quorum. Under the rules, at least nine members of body should be present to hold a meeting.

The Syndicate is short of members because out of the seven faculty representatives, only one member, Dr Shazia Arshad, is currently representing the faculty. One professor, associate professor, assistant professor and lecturer retired from the membership of the Syndicate after completing their term in February and the university had to hold Syndicate elections in April 6, but could not due to the lockdown.

Two other Syndicate members, including a representative of the Senate, had retired from service in June 2019, a dean was not recommended yet and an elected representative from an affiliated college was also not appointed.
