Two children drown, six die in road accidents during Eid days.

KARACHI -- An eight-year-old boy and his six-year-old sister died after drowning in a pond near their home in Surjani Town on the second day of Eid on Monday.

Officials said that Bahadur and his sister Bibi Gul were playing beside the water pond near their home in Hasan Brohi Goth with other children when they slipped and drowned in the water.

'The pond has a depth of around 10 to 12 feet,' said an official at the Surjani Town police station. 'It is a suburban area and often children play here with their friends. It was the second day of Eid and there were more than usual number of children. A few children who are eyewitnesses to the incident told police that both the children disappeared in a few seconds while playing with other children after falling in the water.'

As the children shouted, the area people reached the spot for rescue but it was too late.

After half an hour search, the bodies of both the children were taken out of the water by neighbours on their own.

Road accidents claim six lives

Six people were killed and two sustained serious injuries in different road accidents during Eid holidays, the police said on Tuesday.

He said a 20-year-old man was killed in a road accident off Hawkesbay Road near Machhli Chowk, who was later identified as Babar Ismail. In another accident 26-year-old motorcyclist Qayyum Zaman lost his life while another man, aged 28, met the same fate in Bin Qasim Town near Port Qasim Gate No. 12, who was identified as Waqas Azam.

In another road accident near Port Qasim a young man named Umar Khan lost his life while his 21-year-old friend fell and was injured.
