KOHAT -- The oil tankers association has threatened to suspend supplies to Kohat if reconstruction work on the dilapidated hilly track is not started without delay.

They made the warning at a meeting with additional deputy commissioner Bashir Ahmed here on Wednesday.

The association's president Umair Paracha, vice president Hamad Afridi, secretary general Shehzad Ahmed Chaudhry and finance secretary Salman Afridi were in attendance.

Umair Parcaha and others accused officials of hand in glove with illegal filling stations to get commissions and free oil from the oil tankers using the road.

Mr Paracha said the 11-kilometre-long track had become dilapidated as it had been used by overloaded trucks and oil tankers since the opening of Kohat Friendship tunnel in 2003 as heavy vehicles were banned through the tunnel.

He said no repairs on the road had taken place since then.

He said the bad condition of the road was resulting in frequent accidents taking precious lives.

The additional deputy commissioner assured them of taking strict action against the illegal oil agencies, and also taking up the matter of road maintenance with the relevant authorities.
