Three family members injured during windstorm.

BAHAWALPUR -- Three members of a family sustained serious injuries when an electricity pole fell on them in their house during a windstorm that lashed the city and its suburbs late on Tuesday night.

The injured family was shifted from Ramay Railway Colony on Ahmedpur East Road to the Bahawal Victoria Hospital.

The storm uprooted a number of trees and electricity poles, while some transformers also fell to the ground, as a result of which over a hundred localities in the city and other parts of the district plunged into darkness. The windstorm, followed by light showers, also blew away sign boards of shops, plazas and markets.

The power breakdown and tripping continued on Wednesday till the filing of this report even as Multan Electric Power Company officials claimed to have restored electricity supply in many areas. They told Dawn that the windstorm caused extensive damage to the power infrastructure, which will take time to be repaired.
