Thousands of misappropriated wheat bags seized in ongoing drive.

LARKANA -- Huge wheat stocks concealed in rice mills and private godowns were recovered on Thursday in raids carried out by food officials in Larkana, Sukkur and some other districts.

In Larkana district, deputy director of food department Abdul Ghaffar Shaikh recovered around 90,000 wheat bags of 40kg each in several raids on rice mills and private godowns in Dokri taluka.

Mr Shaikh told local reporters that the raids were conducted upon receiving information about hoarding of wheat and clandestinely dumping the stocks at these places. The stocks were meant for sale at a higher rate in the event of an artificial shortage, he said.

They said gunny bags in a big quantum were seized from the mills. Raids were conducted on several other rice mills to recover misappropriated wheat stocks, they added.

He said the places where the raids were conducted included Tatri, Garilo, Badah and Ganji in Dokri taluka.
