It is a historic day-the US House of Representatives has impeached President Donald Trump for 'incitement of insurrection' after a mob of his supporters stormed the United States Capitol last week, making it the first time in US history that a president has been impeached twice.

It is easy to forget that the first impeachment happened-while it passed in the House, it did not get enough votes in the US Senate, leaving Trump acquitted, with some arguing that it might have boosted his popularity more. It was soon overshadowed by the pandemic, which is probably the real reason behind Trump's fall in the US 2020 general election. The second impeachment seems to be more consequential than the first one-the effort is less partisan than the first one as some Republicans too also join the Democrats in finding Trump deserving of impeachment. Ten Republicans joined more than two hundred Democrats in voting to impeach Trump, making the vote a more bipartisan effort.
