Tension grips Kurram as man killed in attack.

KURRAM -- A man was killed and another sustained bullet injuries when unidentified persons opened firing on a passenger vehicle near Sadda town of Kurram tribal district on Tuesday.

Tension gripped the area following the attack on the car, going from Parachinar, the district headquarters of Kurram, to Peshawar. Mobile phone service and internet were suspended in the district after the attack.

This was the second incident of targeted killing in Kurram. Earlier, a car was attacked in Topaki village in the district's lower subdivision on June 15, in which the chairman of the local peace council, Momin Khan, along with two others was killed while another person was injured.

After assassination of the chairman, a video went viral on social media in which sacrilegious remarks were passed. Sources said that a native of Kurram valley had recorded the video in Dubai. The inappropriate remarks sparked protest in the area and thousands of people took to the streets in Parachinar on Sunday.

Roads blocked; mobile phone and internet service suspended

Police said that the firing incident took place on Sadda Bypass Road in lower subdivision of the district at around 7:45am on Tuesday. They said that one person was killed in the attack while driver of the vehicle got injured.

The deceased was identified as Zeshan Haider, a resident of Shingak village near Parachinar. People blocked roads in some areas of upper and lower Kurram to register protest against the incident.
