Tally rises to 111 as seven more children fall prey to polio.

ISLAMABAD -- Seven new cases of polio have beAen reAported from three provinAces, taking the total number of such cases this year to 111.

According to an official at the National Institute of HeaAlth, four cases have beAen reported in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, two in BaloAchAistan and one in Sindh.

'Three of the four polio cases in KP have been reported from tehsil Serai Naurang of Lakki Marwat district, where a four-month-old boy has been paralysed due to the poliovirus in Union Council (UC) Bakhmal Ahmad Zai, a 21-month-old boy in UC Mama Khel, and a 30-month-old boy in UC Takhti Khel. A boy belonging to tehsil Tank has become the fourth polio victim in the province,' he said.

'Two children affected by the poliovirus in BalochAistan include a 16-month-old boy from UC Quba Sher Khan Gharbi in tehsil Dera Murad Jamali of Nasirabad district and a 14-month-old girl from UC Karez Noth in tehsil Mastung,' the official said.

'In Sindh, a 72-month-old boy belonging to UC Manik Laghari in tehsil Matli of Badin district has been paralysed due to the poliovirus,' he said.

Twelve cases of the crippling disease were reported in 2018 and eight in 2017.
