'Suicidal' man climbs up high-tension electricity pole.

THATTA -- A suicidal man who climbed up a 132kV high tension electricity pole in Gharo town on the National Highway was persuaded to come down by the officials of the town administration, police and local residents on Monday.

The dejected villager identified as Noshad Laghari threatened to commit suicide as he was unable to rejoin his family in Saudi Arabia after his passport was confiscated.

It took officials and people more than two hours to pacify and bring him down.

Revealing his traumatic episode, he said he had served in Saudi Arabia on some private land as a peasant for more than 21 years. He married there and was blessed with a baby girl some eight years ago.

Seven years ago on his parents' insistence, he came to meet them at Naya Abad in Gharo town.

After some weeks when he returned to rejoin his wife and daughter in Saudi Arabia, he was arrested there and put behind the bars for the wrong he had not...
