Students urged to promote reading culture.

PESHAWAR -- Speakers at a book fair here on Tuesday urged students to promote the cause of readership for reviving of book culture on the campuses as it played a key role in boosting up mental capability and creative strengths of young people.

A three-day annual book fair was launched at Agricultural University, here on Tuesday. The pro vice-chancellor of the university, Prof Syed Wahab, inaugurated the event. Around 80 bookstalls were set up by more than 100 publishers, booksellers and private publication houses hailing from Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad and Peshawar.

The 11th annual book fair was arranged under the auspices of Islami Jamiat Talaba (IJT) at the main library lawn of the university. Books were available at 30 per cent to 50 per cent discount prices.

IJT campus nazim Asfandyar Rabbani, University of Peshawar nazim Arshad Khan and spokesperson Owias Khan besides activists of the student wing of Jamaat-i-Islami attended the event.

Local dignitaries, heads of the faculties and departments visited the book fair and encouraged the organisers of the annual event. A large number of students and teachers from schools and colleges in and around Peshawar attended the opening ceremony of the event.
