SMIU teachers launch drive against HEC policies.

KARACHI -- A body of university teachers here on Wednesday announced launching of a movement aimed at safeguarding their rights.

Criticizing policies of the Higher Education Commission (HEC), the Sindh Madressatul Islam University Teachers' Association (SMUTA) announced the step at a presser organised at the press club.

'By targeting teachers no society can progress. We are launching Muqam-i-Mualim movement with the objective to protect teachers' rights and regain the status teachers have lost in society,' said SMUTA president Asif Hussain Samo.

Various activities and programmes would be organised under the movement to build up pressure on the government to address teachers' problems, he added.

Speaking about the HEC's policies, he said the commission came up with new policies every other day, jeopardizing careers of many teachers.
