SIUT awards certificates to student volunteers.

KARACHI -- The Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation on Saturday awarded certificates among participants in the 54th winter sessions batch of its student volunteer programme.

These students concluded a week-long activity of community service.

Organisers said the voluntary service programme for school and college children, had been initiated by the SIUT since 2006.

The programme is conducted on the SIUT's premises during summer and winter vacations in which students are encouraged to perform civic duties and community services for the society at large.

The programme has received an overwhelming response and is specially structured and formulated to motivate students to experience life beyond their own and enhance their community service values, the organisers said.

They added more than 6,550 students had successfully completed the training programme thus far.

At the certificate awarding ceremony, Prof Anwar Naqvi spoke over the philosophy of the SIUT's services and history.

He said the training spanned 30 hours during which the participants interactively engaged themselves with the admitted patients as well as the outpatients especially the children.

During the training, the students were rotated through various departments including OPDs, dialysis, transplantation, lithotripsy, radiology, clinical laboratory, cancer, hepato-gastroenterology and medical and surgical sciences.
