ISLAMABAD -- Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan Senator Sirajul Haq has suggested the amendments in the Article 213 of the Constitution dealing with the appointment of the members of the Election Commission of Pakistan.
While presenting the constitutional amendment bill in article 213 in the Senate on Monday, Sirajul Haq said the amendment be made for the formation of judicial committee in case the prime minister and the opposition leader failed to appoint the ECP members within 45 days.
'The ECP is without CEC and members from Sindh and Balochistan for months although the Constitution mandates that when ECP positions fall vacant, they must be filled within 45 days,' he said, adding the formation of judicial committee was the only way forward to end the present crisis which could possibly create deadlock in future too.
The bill seeks insertion of sub clause 2C in Article 2013 was sent to the Senate Committee on Law and Justice for consideration. Another bill he moved for the amendment in article 45 dealing with the discretionary powers vested upon the President of Pakistan to pardon a criminal was also moved to the same committee.
