THE Sindh public transport system is perhaps the worst in the world. The present transport minister and his predecessor have appeared on TV channels no less than six times this year and last year, promising 1,000 new buses for Karachi within months.

However, after a lapse of year and half, only 10 buses were provided for photo opportunity, and these too have not seen the light of the day since then.

The overall condition of the present rickety public buses is bad and there is no system of tickets. Hardly any maintenance is carried out of public transport. It is simply mindboggling how these vehicles are cleared and given a certificate of being roadworthy by the vehicle inspection department every year.
