Sindh govt vows to take control of PSM.

KARACHI -- The Sindh government on Thursday vowed to launch a drive to take up the control of the Pakistan Steel Mills (PSM) - a federally-owned industrial giant - and for that it has decided to use its parliamentary power in the Sindh Assembly where it would bring a resolution in the first phase of its campaign.

The decision for the campaign came after hours-long meeting of key Sindh ministers with the union leaders of the industrial unit, labour representatives and human rights activists who were invited at the Sindh cabinet's sub-committee to give their input on the issue.

'The sub-committee has decided to bring a resolution in Sindh Assembly seeking control of the Sindh government [of] the PSM for blocking the ill intention of the federal government to render thousands of workers jobless,' said a statement issued after the meeting.

'It was also decided that the Steel Mill Action Committee will present its recommendations and proposals on the issue in the next meeting of the committee to be held after two days so that the suggestions of trade union leaders could be incorporated in the letter that would be sent to the federal government.'
