Sikh community celebrates opening of Kartarpur Corridor.

PESHAWAR -- The Sikh community organised a function to celebrate the opening of the Kartarpur Corridor and appreciated Prime Minister Imran Khan for taking the initiative to facilitate the Sikh pilgrims in reaching their historical worship places and religious sites in Pakistan.

The event was held at Gurdwara Bhai Joga Singh at Mohallah Jogan Shah in the interior city on Monday night. Provincial information minister Shaukat Yousafzai was the chief guest.

On the occasion, the minister said he participated in the event on behalf of Prime Minister Imran Khan. He said there was complete peace and religious freedom in the country and the tourists could visit any religious site fearlessly.

Mr Yousafzai said Pakistan was a democratic country where all minority communities had equal rights and were free to practice their respective religions. However, he said it was unfortunate that Pakistan had been victim of terrorism for the last 15 to 20 years which attached an extremist stigma to it.

He said the prime minister had been struggling to improve the country's image in the comity of world nations to remove the terrorism stigma, and as part of such efforts, he had made an historic speech in the UNGA, presenting the real and true face of Islam.
