Security arrangements finalised for Christmas.

LAHORE -- The Punjab police on Tuesday devised elaborate security arrangements for the Christmas.

Presiding over a meeting in this regard, Inspector General of Punjab Police Shoaib Dastagir issued new standard operating procedures (SOPs) for police officers to follow.

Addressing the meeting, the IGP directed the police officers to follow the SOPs in letter and spirit to ensure security of churches, markets and recreational places situated near Christian worship places.

Particularly, he directed the district police officers (DPOs) to implement the security plan for churches and parks under their own supervision by deputing snipers and commandos for the security of 'A category' churches.

He said monitoring through CCTV of sensitive churches, besides search and checking of citizens using walkthrough gates and metal detectors must also be ensured.

Mr Dastagir said that following the previous IGP's scheme, the crackdown on the top 20 criminals in every district should be carried out under the direct supervision of DPOs concerned and report of the actions be shared with central police office (CPO) on a monthly basis.
