Second bail plea dismissed in Ranjhani murder case.

KARACHI -- An antiterrorism court dismissed on Friday the second bail application of detained union council chairman Abdul Raheem Shah in the case pertaining to the killing of a political activist in a suspected robbery bid.

Shah, the then chairman of UC-3 in Malir, and then police Sub-Inspector Riaz Hussain Aamir have been charged with injuring local Jeay Sindh Tehreek leader Irshad Ranjhani and allegedly obstructing efforts to take him to hospital that resulted in his death.

On Friday, the ATC-XIII judge pronounced his judgement on the second plea moved by Mr Shah seeking his release on bail in the present case.

The judge observed that the trial was at initial stage, the charge was recently framed and the material witnesses were yet to be examined.

Therefore, the judge found the bail plea of the accused meritless and rejected the same.

In his order, the judge further wrote that according to the evidence of the medico-legal officer, who conducted post-mortem examination in compliance with the directives of the Sindh High Court, the deceased had received five bullet injuries.

The victim's brother contended that in the first video of the incident that went viral on the social media there was no bullet injury seen in the head and mouth of the deceased, the judge noted.

The court order mentioned that during the trial the MLO confirmed that the deceased sustained bullet injuries on his mouth and head, adding that the police record was silent as to who caused these injuries when there was no other person present at the place of the incident, except the present accused.

On May 28, the trial court had dismissed bail plea of the arrested UC chairman, who belongs to the Pakistan Muslims League-Nawaz.
