Safe City Project helps reduce traffic violations by 50%, accidents 70%, crime rate 40% in Lahore: Guo Fulin.

ISLAMABAD -- The Safe City Project (SCP), introduced by Huawei in Punjab's capital city of Lahore, has helped reduce traffic violations by more than 50 percent, accidents 70 percent and crime rate 40 percent, besides bringing the police response time to less than 5 minutes from 25.

'This is a great achievement. The safe city projects are really beneficial for the society, multi-national companies, giving sense of security to foreign tourists. We are encouraged to take the safe city concept to a further stage, as there are also many other cities that can enjoy the same kind of benefits,' President of International Media Affairs of Huawei Guo Fulin told a group of journalists at the company headquarters in Shenzhen.

Flanked by Ammar Tobba, Regional Head of Huawei's Media Affairs of Middle East Region, and Teddy Lee from Huawei Pakistan, Guo Fulin said the company was willing to transfer all the latest technologies to Pakistan. 'We have no hesitation in this regard.'

When contacted, founding Chief Operating Officer of Punjab Safe Cities Authority Akbar Nasir Khan endorsed the figures shared by Guo Fulin regarding the Safe City Project. 'This is a great project, which not only helped the Lahore police control crime and traffic violations, but also provide footages for producing as evidence in the courts of law.'

'Besides other benefits, the Safe City Project has also helped reduce the accidents by 70 percent in the city,' he added.

'We are giving about 40 to 50 footages to the police for presenting as evidence in courts daily after the amendment in the law in this regard,' he said, adding the footages had helped the police solve the murder cases, providing instant relief to the innocent.

About 8,000 cameras were working across the city, he said.

Akbar Nasir Khan said many vehicles with fake number plates plying on the city roads had also been impounded, besides reuniting about 140 children to their parents.

He said due to effective monitoring under the safe city project, the police had been able to carry out swift action against the suspicious elements., giving a sense of security to the people with improved security, cricket and other sports activities had also returned to Lahore, he added

Guo Fulin said Pakistan with the population of more than 200 million had a great market for 5G technology.

However, he said, Pakistan required to keep pace with the technology development and made preparations to welcome the 5G technology.
