Robbers kill man who came from Punjab in search of work.

KARACHI -- A young man was shot dead by armed muggers over resistance in a New Karachi locality, police said on Saturday.

They said that seven friends had dinner at a restaurant in Shafiq Colony on Friday night and were on their way home when five armed men intercepted them near the Gabol Town police station.

Area SHO Imran Afridi said that the muggers held them at gunpoint and demanded cash and their mobile phone. However, 25-year-old MuhamAmad Idris refused to give them his cell phone, put up resistance and threw the phone. The robbers fired at him and fled without any loot, he added.

He suffered a single bullet wound in the abdomen and was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.

The SHO said that the deceAased worked in a factory. He had recently come to Karachi from Rahim Yar Khan in search of livelihood. The body was being sent to his native town for burial.
