Robber jailed for life in Suparco employee's murder case.

KARACHI -- An antiterrorism court on Tuesday sentenced a convict to life in prison for killing an employee of the Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission during an armed robbery in 2016.

Ali Hassan was found guilty of killing Mohammad Idrees and injuring Faisal Abbas for resisting cash-snatching bid on July 7, 2016 within the remit of the Mobina Town police station.

On Tuesday, the ATC-XIII judge, who conducted the trial in the judicial complex inside the central prison, pronounced his judgement reserved after recording evidence and final arguments from both sides.

The judge wrote in the order that the prosecution successfully proved the allegations levelled against the detained accused.

The judge also imposed a fine of Rs200,000 on him.

According to the prosecution, unknown armed motorcyclists intercepted driver Mohammad Idrees and security guard Faisal Abbas a few meters away from the Suparco office building as they returned with Rs500,000 cash withdrawn from a bank on Sharea Faisal on July 7, 2016.

Special public prosecutor Ghulam Murtaza Maitlo contended that the deceased driver tried to escape on seeing the present accused and his alleged accomplice on the day of the incident, but they opened fire on them on Suparco Road.

He added that both the driver and the guard sustained bullet wounds and later Idrees succumbed to his wounds in hospital while Abbas survived.

He further contended that accused Ali Hassan got injured by the firing of guard Abbas and was taken into custody by the police in wounded condition while his alleged accomplice managed to flee.

Mr Maitlo argued that the circumstantial, forensic, medical and ocular evidence fully corroborated the case of the prosecution and pleaded to punish the present accused strictly in accordance with the law.

On the other hand, defence counsel Maqsood Ahmed Bullo argued that his client was innocent and framed in the present case by the police with mala fide intentions and pleaded to acquit him of the false and fabricated charges.

He further argued that there were glaring contradictions in the evidence, which did not establish the allegations against his client.
