FOUR months ago a half a kilometre stretch of the road behind the Hameed Lateef Hospital (off Ferozepur Road) in New Garden Town, Lahore, was dug up for repairs.

After digging and laying some crush stone material, when the repair work was about half complete, work on the project was stopped and the crew disappeared.

The whole stretch of this important thoroughfare is now a nightmare for commuters, particularly those who use it daily. It has turned into a shingle road with numerous potholes and depressions, as in the absence of the asphalt layer, the layer of crush stones has eroded almost completely.

The situation has been further aggravated after the rains and often water accumulates in the depressions...
