Revision of NAB law demanded by PML-N, PPP: Qureshi.

MULTAN -- Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi clarified on Sunday that the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) (Amendment) Ordinance, 2019 - promulgated by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government through a presidential ordinance on Friday bringing momentous alterations to the accountability law known as the National Accountability Ordinance, 1999 - was not aimed at providing an National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO), relief or protection to anybody.

While addressing a press conference in Multan, responding to a question about NAB Amendment Ordinance 2019, Foreign Minister said PPP and PML-N desired review of the NAB law and now as government has proposed some amendments, the opposition parties are trying to give it a new color. He said that putting cover on corruption is not our purpose and our purpose is not to give NRO and giving leniency to anyone is not our purpose. He said that Imran Khan and PTI have zero tolerance policy against corruption and we are not ready to protect any corrupt. He said that if opposition wants to bring any improvement in the NAB law then it should present and should hold negotiations on it and the matter can be resolved through mutual consultations. He said that the opposition should not doubt on the intension of the government and should not do politics on this matter.

He said that unfortunately it has become our habit that the people without reading anything start commentary, adding that first read and then if there are any objections then these should be raised.

He said that if there is public and tax payers' money involved then it comes in corruption, adding that FBR is present for taking action on tax evasion issues.

'The amendment has not been made to protect corruption [...] on one hand, it was being said that investors were not investing [in the country ,' he said.

Qureshi lamented over opposition's claim of dysfunctional economic (policies of the government), and putting resistance to economic affairs at the same time. 'Government's measures are criticised for economic stability [of the state],' he added, while regretting that criticism without thorough study of a subject has become a norm in our society.

The foreign minister expressed his gratitude to Sri Lankan cricket team that after the recent concluded tour of Pakistan gave an impression of conducive atmosphere in the country for international cricket teams.
