Residents refuse to offer land for Hazara varsity's expansion.

MANSEHRA -- The residents of Dodial area have refused to offer their agricultural land for the expansion of the Hazara University.

'The vice-chancellor has asked the district administration to acquire 1100 kanals of land for the Hazara University's expansion, which is unacceptable to us. We won't give away even an inch of our land for the purpose,' former district councillor Mohammad Nawaz Khan told a news conference on Monday.

Accompanied by a group of residents, Mr Nawaz said the people of Dodial and adjoining areas had given away their agricultural land for the establishment of the Hazara University.

'The government has already acquired thousands of kanals of our agricultural and domestic land for Hazara Motorway and now, it wants to acquire 1100 kanals more land for Hazara University that is unacceptable to us,' he said.

Elder Saeedur Rehman warned that if the administration imposed Section 4 of the Land Acquisition Act, landowners would block the Karakoram Highway for an indefinite period.

'We are law-abiding people and don't want to hamper any project. If the government tries to deprive us of our agricultural land, which is the only source of our livelihoods, we will not only block the KKH but we will also move the court of law against it,' he said.
