MUZAFFARGARH -- The locals of a sealed neighbourhood in the city have demanded that the district government open the area as they face threats to their livelihood and their families are introubles.

The district government sealed neighbourhood Sheikhupura on May 2 after a schoolteacher died from Covid-19 related complications.

On Thursday, several people gathered outside the DC office and demanded that the area be de-sealed.

One of the protesters said their family members needed medicines and medical checkup but they were not allowed to leave their homes.

The police and the district administration are supplying ration to every household in the sealed territory but the protesters said they did not need any ration.

They said they feared losing jobs because of the forced quarantine. They said those tested negative for the virus should be allowed to leave the neighbourhood.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Amjad Shoaib Tareen, however, remained unmoved, and said he would not de-seal the area unless all the locals were tested,and mandatory quarantine period was fulfilled.

He said to boost the morale of thefront-linedoctors and police officials, he along with District Police Officer Syed Nadeem Abbas was visiting the Indus Hospital and police lines. He said so far no death occurred in the Indus Hospital where 375 people with positive results for coronavirus have been treated, and 69 are under treatment.
