Renowned educationist Dr. Mughees-ud-Din Sheikh passes away.

LAHORE -- Renowned international scholar, educationist and analyst Dr. Mughees-ud-Din Sheikh has died on Wednesday.

Dr. Mughees was put on ventilator last night after his health deteriorated.

Minister for Information and Broadcasting Senator Syed Shibli Faraz has expressed deep sorrow and grief over the sad demise of Prof. Dr. Mughees-ud-Din Sheikh.

In a statement, the minister said that today the nation has lost a great teacher of journalism. He prayed to Allah Almighty to rest his soul in eternal peace and grant courage to the bereaved family to bear this loss with fortitude.

The late professor completed his Master and PhD in Journalism from School of Journalism and Mass Communication, The University of Iowa, Iowa City in United States of America.

He started his teaching career in 1976 from Department of Mass Communication Gomal University as a lecturer and also performed duties as chairman of the Mass communication Department at University of Punjab.

After retirement, he served as Dean in Media and Communication Studies at University of Central Punjab (UCP) and various other prominent universities.

He received University Best Teacher Award by Higher Education Commission, Presidential Award Izaz-e-Fazeelat in year 2009 and UN Award regarding meritorious services for the establishment of FM Radio 104.6 in AJK for the victims of earthquake.
