_: The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority's (OGRA) decision to grant provisional licences of virtual liquefied natural gas (LNG) pipelines to two private companies will help in alleviating the growing gas demand in the country. The granting of licenses to Daewoo Gas and LNG Easy shows that the government is seriously pursuing the path of market liberalisation in the gas sector. The reforms in our gas market were long overdue. Hopefully, the authorities will take more steps in this regard given the sharp increase in the demand for gas across domestic and commercial sectors.

The recent move by OGRA will increase competition and efficiency in the gas market. Furthermore, off-grid consumers will benefit from the initiative, as they will receive a constant supply of energy, something they have been deprived of in the past. As a result, economic growth will also accelerate. The granting of licences to these companies is a display of quick action on setting up new supply chain mechanisms.
