Punjab notifies reduction in public transport fares.

RAWALPINDI -- The Punjab government has issued a notification regarding a reduction in public transport fares in the wake of the decrease in prices of petroleum products.

In addition, Regional Transport Authority (RTA) Rawalpindi constituted special teams to monitor transporters and implement the revised fares on the eve of Eidul Fitr.

The government revised the fares in consultation with public transporters.

According to the notification, non-air conditioned public transport plying on inter-city routes reduced their fares from 0.93 paisa per kilometre to 0.78 paisa per km on metalled plain roads in smooth areas and 0.76 paisa per km for areas where roads are rough and uneven.

Similarly, for transport plying in hilly areas the fare was Rs1.04 per km which has now been reduced to 0.87 paisa per km.

For non-air conditioned diesel buses plying on intercity routes, the fare for the first stage from zero to 4km has been reduced by Rs2 from Rs12 to Rs10.

The fare for the second stage of 4km to 8km has been cut from the existing Rs19 to Rs16 and from 8.1km to 14km from Rs23 to Rs19.

The fare from Rs22.1 km to Rs30 for 30km has been reduced from Rs32 to Rs27 and from 30.1km and above from Rs38 to Rs32.

For inter-city non-AC wagons and minibuses carriage transport from zero to 4km the fare for the first stage has been reduced by Rs1 and now the fare is Rs15. The fare for the second stage of 4km to 8km has been reduced from Rs16 to Rs15 and from 8.1km to 14km from Rs20 to Rs19.

From 14.1km to 22km, the fare has been reduced from Rs24 to Rs23 and from stage 22.1 to 30km the fare reduced to Rs27 from Rs28.
