PTI, PSP accuse PPP of using govt machinery to rig elections.

KARACHI -- Rejecting the results of the first phase of the local government elections in Sindh, opposition parties continued to question the role of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and accuse the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) of using its government in Sindh to influence the electoral exercise.

On Tuesday, the opposition Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf announced that it would approach the Supreme Court against the 'fraudulent process' while the Pak Sarzameen Party (PSP) questioned the establishment for giving a free hand to the ruling party in the province.

Leader of the Opposition in the Sindh Assembly Haleem Adil Shiekh rejected the results of the local government polls and questioned the performance of the ECP.

Speaking at a press conference, he said: 'It was the verdict of the Supreme Court that local government polls should be held in Sindh after legislation under Article 140.'

Both parties question role of ECP in first phase of LG polls

'The slogans of free and fair elections were bulldozed by the government machinery. The candidates were let win the polls through rigging. We reject the first phase of the LG polls in Sindh and we will go to the Supreme Court to get it cancelled. We want to make it clear that the PTI won't accept any electoral process under the incumbent chief election commissioner,' he said.

He also advised PTI's former coalition partner, the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P), to review its decision of joining Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif government 'before it's too late'.
