PTI moves court for notification of three women on reserved seats.

ISLAMABAD -- Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) on Tuesday filed a petition in Islamabad High Court (IHC) seeking directions to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to notify three women as members of the Provincial Assembly of Punjab on reserved seats.

PTI's General Secretary Asad Umar filed the petition that will be heard on Wednesday.

It sought the notification as MPAs of Zia Batool, Saira Raza and Fauzia Abbas on the reserved seats of the PTI that fell vacant due to the disqualification of Uzma Kardar, Ayesha Nawaz and Sajid Yousaf for casting votes in favour of Chief Minister Hamza Shehbaz.

According to the petition, the election of the the chief minister was held on April 16, 2022, in which 25 members of the PTI in the Punjab Assembly voted against the parliamentary party's directions in favour of Mr Shehbaz instead of Chaudhry Parvaiz Elahi.

'Consequently, the 25 members committed a violation of Article 63A of the Constitution and were liable to be disqualified on the grounds of 'defection'. References were accordingly filed against the 25 defected members of the PTI before the ECP in accordance with Article 63A.'
