Protests held in CM's village over arrest of candidates for LG polls.

DADU -- A complete shut-down strike was observed in Bhan Syedabad town, the constituency of Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah in Sehwan taluka, on Wednesday in protest against detention of two independent candidates for councilor and alleged torture on them by police to force them to withdraw from the contest.

Relatives and supporters of Munawwar Memon, candidate for councilor in ward No1, and Noor Mohammad Memon, independent candidate for councilor in ward No5, took out a procession in the town and raised slogans against secretary to the chief minister Saleem Bajari and Bhan Syedabad SHO Qurban Qambrani, accusing them of victimising the two contestants.

They marched on different roads in the town before arriving in the chief minister's native village, Wahur, where they staged a demonstration on the Sehwan-Dadu section of the Indus Highway.

The protesters' leaders Wadero Abdul Sattar Memon and Wadero Luqman Memon said that SHO Qurban Qambrani had detained the two at the instigation of Saleem Bajari. Police were subjecting them torture at the police station, they alleged.

They said that Munawwar and Noor Mohammad were peaceful citizens and police had arrested them to force them to support PPP candidates. It had become a sin in Sehwan to run for public offices as independent candidates, they said.
