Protesting teachers want private schools reopened.

MINGORA -- The owners of private schools, principals and teachers here on Thursday took to the streets against the decision of the federal government to keep the schools closed till July 15 as well as cancellation of all board examinations.

Holding placards and banners inscribed with slogans against the government's decision, they marched from Grassy Ground to Nishat Chowk. The protest was organised by Private School Management Association (PSMA), Swat.

Addressing the protesters, the office-bearers of PSMA said that government must stop economic murder of more than two million teachers working in 200,000 private schools across the country.

'The government has opened bazaars, which are crowded with people. On the other hand the government extended the reopening date of educational institutions till July 15 which is incomprehensible.

'Our only source of income is students' fee but during the past two months the parents have not paid us fee due to which we are unable to pay our rents of buildings and salaries of the teachers,' said PSMA district president Ahmad Shah.

He said that they were unable even to pay the utility bills of their schools. He said that thousands of teachers were dependent on 1,200 schools in Swat but their salaries...
