Protest against 'privatisation of colleges'.

SAHIWAL/LAHORE -- Up to 300 college teachers along with non-teaching staff organised a protest rally on Monday against the shifting of their salaries from District Account Office heads to the Assan Assignment Account (AAA) of the National Bank of Pakistan.

Participants chanted slogans against the Punjab government, the Higher Education Department (HED) and the Finance Department. Participants demanded revival of the autonomous status of the 18 public colleges of Punjab.

The rally was organised by divisional and local chapters of the Punjab Professors and Lecturers Association (PPLA) in collaboration with the Apca college wing. The protest rally was led by PPLA central executive members Dr Tariq Kaleem, Prof Zahid Awan, Prof Touseef Sadiq, Muhammad Shafiq, Shahbaz Ahmed and Apca's Qazi Mubashir.
