Profiteers held, shops sealed in Charsadda.

CHARSADDA -- The district administration on Monday sealed a number of shops and arrested several shopkeepers for hoarding and profiteering.

Officials said encroachments were also removed from the main bazaar.

They said the crackdown was ordered by deputy commissioner Adnan Farid Afridi to ensure smooth supply of food items to consumers at official rates during Ramazan.

The officials said the district administration had also set up 378 distribution points across the district to ensure smooth supply of free flour to the deserving families.

They said the deputy commissioner had directed all the assistant commissioners and additional assistant commissioners to ensure smooth supply of food items to people.

They said Rs75,000 fine was imposed on several shopkeepers and over 15 shops were sealed for violating the official price list.

They said over 20 butchers had also been sent behind bars for profiteering.
