Professor's killer sentenced to death.

BAHAWALPUR -- An anti-terrorism court on Monday handed down death sentence on two counts to the killer of a professor of Government Sadiq Egerton College and seven-year imprisonment to a co-accused.

According to the prosecution, Khateeb Hussain had on March 19, 2019, attacked and inflicted serious injuries with a dagger on hisEnglish lecturer Khalid Hameed on the college premises on the instigation of his class fellow Zafar Husain.

The motive behind the murder was said to be religious differences with the deceased. The accused were overpowered by other students and college staff and handed over to the police, which had booked them under the ATA.

A judge awarded death sentences twice to Khateeb, while Zafar was sent to prison for seven years.

SUGARCANE: Restrictions against the movement of sugarcane outside Rahim Yar Khan district have been challenged in the Lahore High Court.

According to local law officers, the Bahawalpur bench of the high court has accepted the petition of Malik Junaid Aslam and has summoned the Rahim Yar Khan deputy commissioner on Jan 20.
