Probe ordered into financial matters of Edwardes College.

PESHAWAR -- The Board of Governors of Edwardes College Peshawar on Thursday removed its principal and ordered third party audit and inquiry into the financial matters of the premier historic educational institution.

The BoG of Edwardes College chaired by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Shah Farman also decided to appoint retired Prof Mohammad Zaki as acting principal of the college till the arrival of new regular principal.

An official statement said that the BoG also decided to conduct third party audit of the financial matters of Edwardes College and conduct inquiry into overall irregularities in the college affairs.

It was observed in the meeting that the inquiry was aimed at taking indiscriminate action against the people accused of irregularities and other offences by any official.

BoG decides to appoint Prof Zaki acting principal of the college

It was decided in the meeting to float advertisement for appointment of new regular principal of Edwardes College and all codes and formalities would be undertaken as soon as possible for the said purpose.

On this occasion, the governor said that the principal of Edwardes College would be appointed from Christian community. He said that Christian identity of the college should not be disturbed at any level. He said that their purpose was to retain glory and historic identity of Edwardes College and concrete steps would be taken for restoration of its standard.

It is pertinent to mention here that Edwardes College had been facing controversies regarding its administrative setup. The government earlier had formed a six-member committee, headed by the commissioner of Peshawar, to look into the issues plaguing educational standard of the college. Chief Minister Mahmood Khan had ordered the committee to suggest a workable solution to resolve the issue of the declining standard of education at the college established in 1900.
