Private sector asked to invest in integrated tourism zones.

PESHAWAR -- Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Culture and Tourism Authority (KPCTA) director general Bakhtiar Khan and other officials here on Thursday invited the private sector to invest in the integrated tourism zones (ITZs) in order to generate employment, boost local tourism and strengthen the provincial economy.

They were speaking at a sensitisation seminar, which was organised by Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry in collaboration with KPCTA and Planning and Development Department (P and D) of KP government.

The officials informed the participants that immense investment opportunities were available in ITZs that had been approved by the provincial government.

SCCI senior vice-president Shahid Hussain, who chaired the session, said in his opening remarks that the role of tourism sector in economic development was vital across the world. Senior office-bearers of the chamber said that vast investment opportunities were available in tourism sector, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which needed to be tapped efficiently to boost the provincial economy.

Mr Hussain emphasised infrastructure improvement at tourist spots besides provision of better facilities to tourists and arrangements to attract more investors. He assured the officials that SCCI would play its due role to attract private investment in ITZs.
