DOCTORS around the world are always seen as life-savers and messiahs. But, unfortunately, in our country things are different. One of my cousins recently had an accident. Some people brought him to a private hospital.

Upon receiving a call from his home when I reached there he was laying on the bed in the emergency ward. I was shocked to see he was not given the first aid despite being there for one and a half hours.

When I asked the duty doctor, who was a house officer, about the patient he didn't respond and asked me to get the file from the counter for which I paid Rs3,000. I handed the file to the doctor and he prescribed an injection. He asked me to go for an x-ray at Civil Hospital as the x-ray technician was not available at that time.
